National League
Eastleigh v North Ferriby United
Saturday 3 September 2016
Kick-off: 3.00 pm
Ferriby head towards the south coast for another overnight stay before playing their first ever game against Eastleigh on Saturday.
it will have been a testing eight days for the players with Monday’s bank Holiday game at home to Barrow sandwiched between trips to Aldershot and Eastleigh. It is a big demand to make of semi-professional players in a league which consists mainly of full-time clubs.
Eastleigh are in ninth place in the Vanarama National League with 11 points. The Villagers lie in 20th place with seven points. The Hampshire side have scored 13 goals to Ferriby’s five and also have a better defensive record conceding eight to Ferriby’s 14.
Eastleigh sacked manager Paul Todd after just four games and he has been replaced by the experienced Ronnie Moore. In his three games in charge, Moore’s side has yet to concede a goal and have scored seven in two wins and a draw.
Steve Housham will be hoping that his players will be able to put a dent in Moore’s run at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday. The Villagers go in to the game with two successive defeats behind them. There was little complaint about the result at Aldershot last Saturday where Ferriby gave the home side a two goal start and then failed to take some very good chances.
it was a different story against Barrow on Bank Holiday Monday. Ferriby were the better side for much of the game but slipped to their first home defeat due to a goal deep in added time. It was heartbreaking for the players.
Housham said afterwards,
“That’s a hard one to take. It was our best performance so far and I’m absolutely gutted for the players. They gave everything. We knew barrow’s strengths and we talked about how to deal with them and we did it pretty well.
“We have another long trip at weekend and we will pull ourselves together for another tough game.
It is important that we start to pick up points on our travels. We need to continue to defend solidly and it is vital that we start taking our goal chances. You don’t generally get many at this level and we really can’t afford to waste them.”
Steve Brogan may recover from his thigh strain in time for the trip. The other injury doubt is Liam Slade who injured his calf in the warm-up before the game on Monday and had to be replaced in the starting line-up by Jake Skelton.
Ferriby from: Rory Watson, Sam Topliss, Steve Brogan, Connor Oliver, Mark Gray, Liam Slade, Danny Emerton, Danny Clarke, Curtis Bateson, Connor Robinson, Ryan Kendall, Simon Russell, Taron Hare, Ryan Fallowfield, Ben Middleton, Louis Bruce, Darryn Stamp, Ross Armstrong, Jordan Cooke, Jake Skelton, Vinny Mukendi, Alfons Fosu-Mensah
The First Team players and managers are all contributing towards the cost of the Supporters’ Club coach to the game at Macclesfield Town on 1st October.
Manager Steve Housham and captain danny Clarke both say it is a way of thanking the fans for their support.
”They’ve been great and we really appreciate it. They give a big boost to the players.”
Supporters’ Club Chairman Andrew Frankland-barber says
”It’s a wonderful gesture by the players and managers and one we really appreciate. It typifies the attitude that exists within this club.”
