 North Ferriby United v Stafford Rangers

Saturday’s game against  Stafford Rangers is taking place on Non-League Day 2018 and The Villagers have been heavily publicising the game in an attempt to persuade more people to come and watch a game at The Chadwick Stadium.

Ferriby certainly need more supporters attending. The last two home attendances have totalled just under 300 and that creates financial pressures for the club.

Results have not been good but Chris Bolder’s side has been playing attractive and positive football and both he and the players deserve support for what they are attempting to achieve.

Ferriby will be hoping for a change of luck on Saturday. Luck has certainly been missing in the last two games which The villagers could well have won.

Tuesday’s defeat at Bamber Bridge was particularly galling because Ferriby could have been 3-1 ahead  with two shots hitting the inside of the post. Instead they conceded twice in the final 15 minutes to come away defeated. It was not what the performance deserved.

Stafford come in to the game on the back of  a 1-3 home defeat to Farsley Celtic on Tuesday. They are currently fourteenth in the table. They have won one  and lost their other five away league games. In those games they have scored 5 goals and conceded 16 . The away record isc certainly one that will give The Villagers some hope who have been creating opportunities to score in recent games.

Bamber had the better of the first-half but the second-half it was a completely different performance from Ferriby.  They battled for everything and gradually began to dominate. Luke Hinsley scrambled home an equaliser before he and Kent Bannister both hit the inside of the post.

 Unfortunately, an unnecessary penalty and a goal on the break won the game for Bamber. They were a mightily relieved side at the end and had plenty of praise for The Villagers’ performance.

After the game, Bolder commented,

 “We got them [the players] in at half-time and spoke about a few things and allocated roles and responsibilities to certain players and told them exactly what we wanted them to do. It worked to a ‘t’ and for the first 30 minutes of the second-half it was all us.

“We  have  to  continue  to  take  the  positives  from  the  games  and  everyone  who  is  watching  us  can  clearly  see  that  no  one  is  throwing  the  towel  in  and  the  lads continue  to  work  to  their  limits  to  the  very  last  second  of  the  game.  I  genuinely  feel  that  with  each  game  that  passes,  the  experiences  gained  from  all  involved  will  allow  us  to  turn  these  performances  into  points  on  the  board  as  the  season  progresses. “

Bolder comments on the Stafford game,

“Non-league Day is a great event and always helps to put the non-league world on the map.

The club have made a fantastic effort with promoting this and, hopefully, we will  manage to convert some new fans that have come through the gates today.

“On  the  attacking  front  we  have  created  numerous  goal-scoring  opportunities  in  the last two games  and  had  chances  that  have  hit  the  woodwork  or  that  were  cleared  off  the  line.  These  have  occurred  at  key  points  in  the  game  and  would  have  put  us  in  front  had  they  gone  in  meaning  the  complexion  of the game would have changed.

“We  are  seeing  that  when  these  chances  are  not  taken,  the  opposition  are  always  capable  of  punishing  you  and  this  has  been  evident  especially  when  we  have contributed  to  our  own  downfall. 

“I  genuinely  feel  that  with  each  game  that  passes,  the  experiences  gained  from  all  involved  will  allow  us  to  turn  these  performances  into  points  on  the  board  as the  season  progresses. 

“I  am  fully  aware  that  this  needs  to  happen  sooner  rather  than  later  so  that  we are  not  giving  ourselves  an  impossible  task. We  have  previously  highlighted  the  fact that  these  lads  are  in  their  infancy  at  this level  and  the  quality  of  opposition  is  of  a higher standard  than  ever  before,  so  we must  develop  our  consistency  in  order  to perform  for  the  full  duration  of  each  game. 

“The  rigours  of  non-league  football  have meant  a  gruelling  start  to  the  campaign and sometimes  this  is  easily  overlooked, the  demands  of  Saturday-Tuesday  games has  seen  injury  and  fatigue  amongst  the squad. 

“The  commitment  from  these  lads  and the  staff,  though,    has  been  excellent  and everybody  continues  to  be  upbeat  and  be pulling  in  the  same  direction. 

“Stafford are going to be another strong team. They have had a mixed start to the season . They lost at home in midweek but it is mainly their away form that has put them in the bottom-half of the table. Their away form has not been so good in terms of results and we must capitalise on that on Saturday.”

Bolder will have Jordan Harrison back on Saturday following suspension. Ben Clappison is like ly to be unavailable.  to make changes on Tuesday. Paul Robson went-off with an injury on Tuesday and James Nichols is till doubtful due to a thigh injury.
